About the Exhibit

Since Duke University Hospital first opened its doors on July 21, 1930, the Duke Health System has depended on the dedicated work of a wide range of employees to keep operations running smoothly — mopping floors, emptying trash, laundering linens, changing lightbulbs, preparing meals, delivering mail, organizing supplies, servicing plumbing, and much more! These tasks do not ‘just happen’–they require the dedicated work of many staff members.

Faces of Duke Health celebrates the diverse roles that contribute to the Duke Health community. This ongoing exhibit series highlights the often-overlooked departments and variety of roles and expertise essential to the daily operations of a health system.
