Zelda & Hospital Fire

As commonly remembered by many people, the individual that is often associated with Highland is novelist and socialite Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. She was first admitted for treatment in 1936 and stayed intermittently until her tragic death in 1948. Sadly, nine individuals, including Zelda, were killed in a fire that overtook Highland Hospital on March 11, 1948.

While the Medical Center Archives receives regular questions about Zelda’s life and her time at Highland Hospital, unfortunately our archival records do not contain any specific information about her time at Highland.
