Kathleen Clem
Kathleen Clem received her Associate in Science in Nursing in 1977 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1982. In 1989, she received her MD from Loma Linda University School of Medicine where she also completed her Residency in Emergency Medicine, serving as Chief Resident in 1993. As a new attending, she established one of the nation’s first International Emergency Medicine Fellowships and organized medical teams to establish clinics or provide medical support and teaching in 11 countries. From 1993 to 1998, she served as the Director of International Emergency Medicine at Loma Linda.
Dr. Clem came to Duke University in 1998 as an Attending Physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine within the Department of Surgery. She served for 9 years at Duke as the first female Division Chief in the Department of Surgery and as the first Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine. While at Duke she started the Emergency Medicine academic, research, and clinical programs.
Dr. Clem was the inaugural President of the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM), served as Chair of the Association of American Women Emergency Physicians (AAWEP), and has held multiple national leadership responsibilities in the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.
She returned to Loma Linda in 2007 to serve as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics. She is currently Professor at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine and practices Emergency Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center while also serving as n Adjunct Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Previously, she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for AdventHealth after leaving her role as Vice President and CMO for Florida Hospital East Orlando.
