Ann Reed
Ann Reed received an MD from Medical College of Ohio in 1984. She completed an Internship and Residency in Pediatrics at Akron Children’s Hospital from 1984-1987, a Fellowship in Clinical Iimmunology/Rheumatology at Northwestern University from 1987-1990, and a Research Fellowship in Molecular Genetics at the University of Chicago from 1988-1990.
She joined Duke University School of Medicine as the first female Chair of the Department of Pediatrics in August 2014. Prior to coming to Duke, she was Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic and also Interim Director and Physician-in-Chief of the Mayo Clinic Children’s Center in Rochester, Minnesota. Before her move to Minnesota, Dr. Reed was a tenured Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and was active in a collaborative program with Duke providing clinical care of Pediatric Rheumatology patients.
Dr. Reed’s research has helped to identify genes that predispose children to juvenile dermatomysitis, providing a comprehensive understanding of the genetics of the disease. She has been Principal Investigator on several research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
